Hostage for Life

Bride's thoughts...

Did I see it coming...or did I not? I am not sure, really. I have always "assumed" he would pop the question anytime. I even assumed he would propose to me on our first date! Haha! But that's just me being silly and crazy (in love...naks!). Kidding aside, last year (2013), things evolved to a more serious level as I finished my graduate studies and hit the 30th number on the age department. I had a feeling that we would soon settle down, perhaps start talking about it sometime in 2014. I DID NOT expect it to happen too soon (although, yeah, I had the assume-era mode on when we went to Cebu in August, Palawan in October, and on my 30th birthday). Kakahiya, but I was really watching out for the "signs" which turned out to be false alarms hehe!

November 23, 2013. Calvin and I were supposedly going out on a date to celebrate his birthday. Of course, I was assuming again but not seriously assuming, get it? When we got into the resto, I was looking for the loose petals scattered on the floor, pero wala. So, sabi ko, "Ah, wala, wala. Hindi ngayon." So I brushed off the idea. But then....you know what happened!

It’s difficult to narrate how the actual wedding proposal went, and this video actually isn’t enough to sum up the emotions I was feeling at that time. When everything was laid out in front of me, I just thought of three things:

1. Calvin exerted so much effort to orchestrate such a wedding proposal, so no matter how un-cheesy or un-romantic it was for other people (for the ‘odd’ record, I found it romantic!), he couldn’t have done any better. He just knew how to surprise me without me finding out beforehand his ‘surprise!’

2. He asked my dad first. That’s the most important thing for me. Kahit sobrang romantic pa ng proposal n’ya, kung di muna s’ya nagpaalam sa tatay ko, it would still be ‘minus pogi points’ for him. But he asked my dad first, and that meant he respected my dad, and he saved me from having to tell daddy myself (hahaha!).

3. He wants to marry me, and that speaks a million words.

So, of course, I said yes. J

Still can’t believe what has just happened here. J

Me, telling the ‘experience’ to my family.
With my dad and Calvin’s family – all dining happily. J
With my brother and his girlfriend.

With my Daddy!
Happy me
Word of precaution outside Van Gogh held by my dad and Calvin’s tito and tita. Ain’t that genius? J
